Odinn's Story

The Inspiration Behind Odinn's Legacy CIC

Odinn's Legacy CIC was created in memory of a very special Husky called Odinn. Odinn's life and legacy continue to inspire the organisation's commitment to animal welfare, responsible ownership and supporting animals and the people who love them.

Odinn's Story, Odinn the husky whose legacy inspired Odinn's Legacy Animal Welfare Charity

Every animal deserves a chance.

Odinn’s story inspired the creation of Odinn’s Legacy CIC. His journey reminds us why every animal deserves compassion, care, support, and the opportunity to live a happy and healthy life.

Odinn came into our lives through a Facebook advertisement. The advert stated that he was three years old and had only ever had one owner.

As we began to learn more about him and researched the limited paperwork that came with him, we discovered a very different story. Odinn was actually five years old, and we were his eighth owners.

Despite everything he had been through, Odinn quickly became a beloved member of our family. Although he was only with us for a few short months, the impact he made on our lives would last forever.

Sadly, Odinn passed away following a heart attack. We were devastated by the loss.

During the time we shared with Odinn, we had become involved with a Husky rescue organisation and had started fostering dogs. Our first foster was Keeta.

Keeta arrived needing stability, understanding and care. From the moment she joined us, Odinn took great care of her. He seemed to instinctively know she needed reassurance and companionship, and a special bond quickly formed between them.

When Odinn passed away, Keeta became lonely. Just four weeks later, we were asked to foster another Husky named Blu.

At first, we had our doubts. It felt too soon after losing Odinn. We questioned whether we were ready to open our hearts again.

Then I remembered a poem that perfectly captured what so many pet owners feel after loss.

A Dog’s Last Will and Testament

“Before humans die, they write their last will and testament, giving their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask…

To a poor and lonely stray, I’d give my happy home; my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur; and the sweet voice that spoke my name.

I’d will to the sad, scared, shelter dog the place I had in my human’s loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds.

So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and the pain is more than I can stand.”

Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give my place to him.

This is the only thing I can give…

The love I left behind.

We welcomed Blu into our home and, with that decision, we truly entered the world of fostering.

Through fostering we met many incredible people, each dedicated to helping animals in need. One of those people was Anna.

We had known Anna for several years. At the time, she was caring for an eighteen-month-old dog named Major, whose story was heartbreaking.

Major had been found when he was only two weeks old and was in an extremely poor condition. Due to the trauma and neglect he experienced at such a young age, he was left with brain damage. He was completely blind in one eye and partially blind in the other.

Despite everything he had endured, Major remained a happy dog.

Anna wanted to ensure he was not suffering and that he could enjoy the best quality of life possible. To do that, he needed an MRI scan. The cost was £1,600, a figure that was simply out of reach.

It was then that we decided we had to do something.

Together with a small group of supporters, we established Odinn’s Legacy CIC with the goal of raising the funds needed to help Major.

Through a series of successful fundraising events and with the support of amazing people, we eventually reached our target.

Major received his MRI scan.

To everyone’s surprise and relief, the results showed that although Major had experienced significant challenges in life, he was not suffering. He was simply living life in his own unique way.

Later, Major moved to a farm in Cornwall, where he spent the rest of his days doing what he did best: touching the hearts of everyone he met.

Major became the first dog helped directly through Odinn’s Legacy CIC.

His story proved something we still believe today:

What began as the story of one Husky who changed our lives became a promise to help others. Today, Odinn’s Legacy CIC continues in Odinn’s name, supporting animals and their owners when they need it most.

Because a legacy is not measured by how long a life lasted.

It is measured by the lives that were changed because it existed. 🐾

Over the years, I have personally fostered more than 20 dogs and adopted six of them into my own family. Today, I share my home with a small Saluki named Koda, who brings joy, laughter and companionship into our lives every day.

What started with Odinn grew into something far greater than we could ever have imagined.

Together, with the incredible volunteers and supporters of Odinn’s Legacy CIC, we have helped over 40 dogs find their forever homes, giving them the second chance they deserved and helping families discover the unconditional love that only a dog can provide.

Fostering is not always easy. There are goodbyes, challenges and heartbreaks along the way. But there are also countless moments of happiness, hope and transformation. Every dog that leaves for their forever home creates space for another dog in need, and every successful adoption changes lives, both canine and human.

If our story has inspired you and you would like to learn more about fostering or adopting, we would love to hear from you. Please come and speak to one of the team if you meet us at an event, send us a message through our social media pages, or contact us by email.

And if we’re not local to you, simply search online for dog rescues in need of foster carers in your area. There are rescue organisations across the country desperately needing foster homes, and one spare space in your home could make all the difference to a dog waiting for a second chance.

Because every rescue story starts with someone willing to help.

And sometimes, changing one dog’s life can change your own forever.

In loving memory of Odinn, whose legacy continues through every dog helped, every family supported, and every second chance given. 🐾💙

The Story Continues

Odinn’s journey inspired a lasting commitment to helping dogs, supporting owners and creating second chances. While Odinn’s story will always remain at the heart of our charity, it is only the beginning of the legacy that continues today.

Every dog helped, every family supported and every life changed becomes part of that legacy. Through compassion, community support and dedication to animal welfare, new success stories are being written every day.
